Your statement about Seth Ward's original patent being the site of Sheffield is incorrect. Seth settled near the Glebe House on the north side of the river just west of (and probably including parts of) modern Deep Bottom Park. Sheffield is on the south side above the Branch family plantation and below the Goode's. I have extensive maps and have located almost all the 16th Century Ward properties. Contact me if you want the material (also working on a ms that is 100 pages at the moment, covering the first four Ward generations) dward at pitzer dot edu
